I’ve spent a week so far in Australia and it’s been pretty
cool.
It’s pretty similar to America in a lot of ways (I’ve hard
Aussies try to deny this but it really is some sort of British/American hybrid
with good weather.)
Many Aussies are very friendly and outgoing although some
seem to have a built-in hatred for Americans.
I guess they don’t like our movies.
We’re staying at Surfers Paradise for three months.
The weather is good and consistent in the 70
to 75 degree range, although the surf directly in front of my house is a little
poor for surfing.
There’s some
world-class surf spots 20 to 30 KM south but they are very crowded and probably
above my ability.
The internet is pretty bad here overall.
I’m just going to chip in at my buddies
Slider and EffinA’s apartment for their internet, although that is taking over
a week to get set up and it comes with bandwidth limits, which are everywhere.
Getting internet in a coffee shop, I can get maybe an hour
with a 100 MB cap if I purchase something or pay $5.
In the States, I can get all day for free.
Thus, I haven’t played a hand of poker in 10
days and have been spending a ton.
This all came after an -8k downswing that I had right after
my last blog post.
I lost basically
every big pot and eventually tilted a little.
Eventually, after 3,000 hands, I got KK vs AA yet again at 5/10 and had
to call it quits for my sanity.
I am itching to get back to playing and making some money
back.
I do need to set a stop loss, though.
Twice in the last week I was in the States I
lost $4k within the first 200 hands of playing and something about that
monetary threshold causes me to play my C game or worse.
I’ve never been good at quitting when down or
on tilt but I’ve maturing a little and am pretty sick of these really bad
nights where I can look back and see the poor plays I made.
Pat Southern and I got an apartment right on the beach.
It’s somewhat between a hotel room and an
actual apartment complex so we’re skipping on internet and will just play at
our friend’s house.
The view is amazing
though:

That’s it for now.
I
got the partying out of my system for now and am ready to get to grinding!
